LOCAL COSTS OF MATERIALS(Doors and Windows)


Local Costs of Materials:

A.Doors and Windows

1. Panel-type door, Narra:

A door measuring 1mx2.10m costs about P 3000/sqm and increases with the type of design.

2. panel-type Door Tanguile

Starting cost is P1,200/set for a 1m.x2.10m door dimension.

3. Flush-type Door

Usual Quotation is P300/set for a 1m. x 2.10 m. door

4. Aluminum Sliding Door

Materials ordinarily consist of aluminum frames and ¼” thick glass panels. A unit measuring 1.80x2.10 m. costs around P5000. The Addition of Automation for the sliding door makes the cost double for every unit of automatic sliding door installed. A certain Aluminum And Glass company charges around P10,000/sqm for glass doors and increases as the Glass or Door Size increases.

5. Steel Windows, Casement Type

Materials used are steel for frame and 1/8” thick glass panels. Measures window area and multiply by P450/sq.m.

6. Jalousie windows

Jalousie windows with aluminum frames and glass blades are priced at P350/sqm. Those with wooden frames and blades cost half as much (P350/sq. m.)

7. Sliding Windows

Those with aluminum frames and ¼” thick glass panels are available at 1000/sq.m.

8. Wrought Iron-Grills

The asking price for W.I Grills used to secure windows with ordinarily starts at P400/sq.m.

9. Aluminum Swing Door

Materials consist of Aluminum Frames enclosing glass or aluminum sheets and either having aluminum, wood, steel or concrete door jamb. A Glass Swing Door is charge by aluminum and Glass companies at around P12, 000/sqm.

Note: the Prices given are material costs only and do not include installation and insurance costs. The prices given may vary depending on the quality of service of a certain company.

2. Form ply wood = 0.8 pieces of 4’x8’ plywood form per cubic of concrete.

3. Assorted Nails= 1 keg of assorted nails per 2000 bf of nailing surface.

45 kilos of nails = 1 keg
1 keg = 100 lbs. = 45 kg.

Future of Civil Engineering Professionals

After garnering so much knowledge and techniques in construction, a Civil Engineer can be said to be stable professionally. That is because the construction industry is willing to employ people who have the necessary abilities to build what is required by clients. Not to forget that there are other competitors from the field of construction. e. g. Architects. Nonetheless the construction world is wide and still expanding and many can fit in, especially those who have experience in the industry for at least more than 2 years. But how about those who just graduated from the universities with totally no experience in construction?

This is a question asked by many who dreamed to be great builders but realizing that the road towards the world of Construction is easy only for individuals with firsthand experience in the scope.

At a young age, many Civil Engineers enter the world of construction with virtually no weapon but the long learned mathematical skills garnered in the university. That's one reason why Architects are more prepared to enter the field than civil engineers are. Take note that a civil engineer in the Philippines can immediately take the Board exam for licensure without no OJT ( On the-Job-Training), and even without review. Meanwhile, Architects need to have at least two years experience on horizontal or vertical construction or any firm concerning construction.

Though there is a difference in the scope of the two, Architecture and Civil Engineering can enter each others scope unintentionally specially in the construction of Buildings and Land Development. Nowadays, either a Civil Engineer or an Architect are usually the ones who lead a construction project or who are called the Project Managers/ Project-in-charge. Seldom it is from other discipline of engineering.
